New Delhi: A 32-year-old Nigerian national was arrested here allegedly with eight grams of cocaine having street value of around Rs 10 lakh, police said.
Obiora Ikenna Sunday was apprehended from Arjun Nagar area in South Delhi's Aya Nagar late last night during a surprise check, Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.
"He was indicated to stop for checking but instead of stopping, he started fleeing. Police intercepted him after a chase. During physical searches, eight grams of cocaine was recovered from him," Sharma said.
It also came to light that his visa had already expired in February 2010 and he was staying in Delhi illegally.
"He came to India about 14 months ago on tourist visa and started living in Arjun Nagar. Initially, he started export of readymade garments, shoes and other accessories from Delhi to Lagos in Nigeria but he incurred heavy losses in the business.
"Later on, he came in contact with a Nigerian drug trafficker Efoama, who met him in Safdarjung Enclave area. He lured him in the trade. Yesterday, he came to Arjun Nagar area for supplying the cocaine to a potential buyer Odapam," Sharma said.
