New Delhi:
Four people who planned to extort Rs 1 crore from a businessman to become rich overnight have been arrested, police said on Monday.
Dinesh Chand, Manoj Kumar, Vijay Mishra and Faisal Hassan were arrested for demanding Rs 1 crore extortion money from Sanjeev Kanwar of west Delhi's Ashok Vihar area.
Kanwar complained to the police on April 6.
"The extortionist made two calls on April 5 and 6 and threatened to kill Kanwar if he failed to deliver the amount," said P. Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police.
The entire plan was crafted by Dinesh. He was arrested here from his hideout. Subsequently, the remaining three were arrested in two days April 6 and 7.
"The accused were asking Kanwar to deliver the amount at Karnal bypass near Haryana border. The calls were made by Faisal Hassan from a borrowed mobile phone," said the officer.
