New Delhi:
Four persons, including the gang leader of the interstate Kala gang, involved in several cases of motor vehicle theft in the national capital region, have been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
Pushpendra alias Kala, Mohammed Shehjad, Shaharat, and Sanjeev Pal - all residents of Uttar
Pradesh - were arrested on the charges of stealing, buying and selling motorcycles, a senior police official said.
With their arrest, police claimed to have solved 25 cases of motor vehicle theft and recovered 21 stolen vehicles from their possession.
Kala and Shehjad were arrested on October 12 during a routine check near the Andrews Gunj bus stand at about 1.30 PM.
"They were riding a white motorcycle. When the police signaled them to stop, they tried to speed away but they could not. During the inspection of the vehicle, it was found that the rear number plate of the motorcycle was fake. On verification, it was found that the bike was stolen from the Mansarowar Park area," Chhaya Sharma, DCP South District said, adding both of them were arrested.
During interrogation, they said they were residing in Muzaffarnagar and were autolifters and receivers of stolen bikes. They confessed their involvement in auto lifting in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, he added.
"They used to purchase stolen bikes from Rakesh of Modi Nagar district and Wasim from Meerut - both autolifters - and operate in the area of North-East district and western Uttar Pradesh and used to sell stolen motor cycles with fake number plates," Sharma said, adding that at their instance, 20 stolen motorcycles were recovered from different places.
