New Delhi: In good news for kidney patients, Delhi government on Monday decided to set up exclusive dialysis centres in six major hospitals where poor patients will be offered the treatment free of cost.
A total of 120 dialysis machines will be made available in these six centres and tender for their procurement will be floated soon.
The proposal to set up the exclusive dialysis centres was cleared by a meeting of Delhi cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
"The government has decided to install 120 dialysis machines in six hospitals where free of cost dialysis treatment and allied procedures will be provided to the poor and identified categories of patients as per the policy of the government," Ms Dikshit said.
The proposal to set up the dialysis centres was first mooted over two years back.
A health department official said 30 machines would be installed at Rajiv Gandhi Super-specialty Hospital in Tahirpur while 20 machines will be made available at Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan in East Delhi.
25 dialysis machines would be made available each at Janakpuri Super-specialty hospital and Bhagwan Mahaveer hospital in Pitampura.
The Lok Nayak hospital in Central Delhi and Madan Mohan Malviya hospital in Malvya Nagar will get 10 machines each.
All the six hospitals where dialysis centres will be set up are run by Delhi Government.
"Commissioning of 120 dialysis machines across the city would go a long way in helping needy patients," said Ms Dikshit.
She said nominal fee will be charged from the general category patients.
