Gang Allegedly Targeting 'Kirana' Shops Busted, 5 Arrested In Delhi

Delhi Police claimed to have busted a gang which allegedly used to target 'kirana' shops in the NCR.

New Delhi: With the arrest of five persons, Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang which allegedly used to target 'kirana' shops in the NCR.

Hashim alias Doctor, Shubham, Vivek Kumar, Reshu Prasad and Kirti have been arrested, DCP (East) Rishi Pal Singh said.

The gang, dubbed as 'doctor gang', was allegedly involved in a robbery-cum-firing incident in Kalyanpuri in East Delhi on September 18 in which they had robbed two kirana shops in Durga Market area, the DCP said.

The accused had opened fire at the shopkeepers after they offered resistance, he said.

A team formed to investigate the matter had received a tip-off about the presence of gang leader Hashim and his accomplice Shubham in Sector 12 of Noida, he said.

A raid was carried out and the two were arrested. Based on their interrogation, Reshu and Vivek were arrested from Chaura village in Noida, Mr Singh said.

During interrogation, Hashim disclosed that he and his associates were arrested in a robbery case and were in Bhondsi Jail (Gurgaon) where they hatched the plan to target kirana shops, he said.

The gang used to target kirana and wholesale shops as they posses huge amount of cash and could be robbed easily, he said.

In the last three-four months, the gang had carried out several robberies in New Ashok Nagar, Mansarovar Park, Khora Colony in Ghaziabad and some areas in Faridabad, said the officer.
