Gang offered lifts to people to rob them

New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted a gang who first used to offer lifts to people and then rob them.

"We received information that a gang of robbers was active in north west and west Delhi and the members of the gang would assemble in Rohini. A trap was laid and we apprehended three persons who were travelling in a Maruti Zen," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ashok Chand.

"During questioning, we found out that on January 10, these three had given a lift to a railway employee, promising to drop him at Bahadurgarh on payment of a nominal fare. As he sat sit inside their car, they beat him up and robbed him at knife point," said Chand.

He added that they had also looted an employee of a private company in a similar fashion some time back.

"After robbing the victim, they used to cover his face with polythene and tie his hands before dumping him at a secluded place to ensure that the victim could not note down the number of the car." said Chand.

"I request general public not to take lifts from unknown persons and use public transport to avoid such incidents," the DCP added.
