New Delhi: Delhi police is recording statement of a 19-year-old German woman who has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a group of men including an auto driver in Delhi in December last year.

The woman, who recently approached the Delhi Commission for Women or DCW, said she was too scared to report the incident then.  Police has registered a case after a notice from DCW based on the woman's complaint via email.

The woman was working with an NGO on an assignment last year when she left from her hotel in Central Delhi on December 14 at around 8 pm.  While returning, she lost her way in the alleys and asked an auto driver for directions. The driver promised to drop her back at the hotel but instead took the woman to a secluded area and raped her, she said in a statement to the police.

The woman somehow managed to escape and ran into another street when the auto driver caught her again this time with 4 other men in the vehicle. During the assault, the woman bit the tongue of one of the men who yelled causing commotion after which the men escaped, the statement said.

She then managed to reach a main road near Prasad Nagar in Karol Bagh where a man helped her to get back to the hotel. She said that she did not report the incident as she was scared to approach the police in a foreign country.
