Girl found murdered in Delhi on New Year day

New Delhi: A teenage girl was bludgeoned to death in a posh south-west Delhi locality on the first day of the New Year Day with investigators waiting for post-mortem report to ascertain whether she was raped.

The body of Jennifer (17) was discovered in Dwarka Sector 14 on Saturday night, Sharad Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West), said. She was residing with her brother in the servants quarters of Lady Hardinge Hospital.

"She was attacked with a blunt object or stone on her head by unidentified persons," he said.

This is the first case of crime against woman reported in the capital this year.

A senior police official said Jennifer had left her house Saturday morning and her body was found last night in Dwarka. She had told her relatives she was going to R K Puram to meet someone.

The official said they were awaiting post-mortem report for ascertaining the exact cause of death. "We are probing all angles," he said.

Initial investigations suggested there was "sexual activity" but it could not be confirmed whether it was "consensual or forceful".

"There are signs of sexual activity. Only a post-mortem will ascertain whether it was consensual or rape. We are investigating the matter," the official said adding they have some clues and were working on it.
