The green panel had directed the Delhi government to submit within two weeks an action plan on reduction of noise pollution caused due to heavy traffic near Panchsheel Park area.
New Delhi:
The National Green Tribunal today directed the Delhi government and the police to inspect Panchsheel Park in South Delhi and find ways to avoid massive traffic congestion in the area.
A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar pulled up the Delhi government and the civic bodies, including Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and municipal corporation, for not devising an effective plan to decongest the area.
"Have you ever thought of the reason why there is traffic congestion in the area and how to solve it? It road is congested 24 hours. Issuing challans is not a solution for the problem.
"Take Commissioner of Police, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic), Secretary of Delhi's Transport Department and an official from DDA for inspection. Spend two hours there and then tell us how can you solve the problem," the bench said while posting the matter for further hearing on December 10.
When the counsel for the Delhi government sought a written order, the bench said, "Why do you need orders even for getting up from your chairs."
The directions came during the hearing of a petition filed by Omesh Saigal, a resident of Panchsheel Park, who alleged that noise pollution, generated due to heavy traffic flow on Outer Ring Road, was affecting the health of the people living in the area.
The green panel had directed the Delhi government to submit within two weeks an action plan on reduction of noise pollution caused due to heavy traffic near Panchsheel Park area.
