A heavy downpour on Wednesday evening hampered traffic in many parts of Delhi with waterlogging and potholes causing long tailbacks on several arterial roads.
Traffic slowed down as the downpour began with people making calls to the police complaining about waterlogging and heavy traffic. The rain lasted nearly an hour.
A senior traffic police official said that they had received 2,000 complaints of waterlogging and traffic jams till 9.50 pm.
Waterlogging on several roads, underpasses resulted in traffic jams on different stretches, causing hardships to the commuters.
There was a traffic jam on Parliament Street which was closed for about one hours due to demonstrations with vehicles getting stuck for several hours.
Traffic was slow on many roads till late evening due to waterlogging areas in Laxmi Nagar, ITO, Sarita Vihar, Janakpuri, Mathura Road, Rajghat, Vikaspuri, Sarai Kalen Khan, Kashmiri Gate.
Delhi Police also issued an advisory asking motorists to avoid NH-24 where traffic was heavy.
