After a muggy afternoon and sporadic drizzle in the national capital on Monday, a torrential downpour caused heavy traffic snarls and flooding on roads.
Traffic snarls were reported following heavy rainfall which started around 6 pm as roads were flooded in minutes.
Rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours was 26 mm in New Delhi. The maximum temperature settled at 34.5 degrees Celsius.
"Light rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperature would stay around 32 and 25 degrees Celsius," said an official from India Meteorological Department.
According to the traffic department, heavy traffic jams were reported from Baraf Khana, Kashmere Gate and Nangia Park underpass in north Delhi and Moolchand flyover and IIT road in south Delhi, among many other places.
"Traffic jam calls have been received from Ashram Chowk, Moti Bagh Dhaula Kuan, Mehrauli, Modi Mills and Nehru Place in south Delhi, Shakti Nagar and Rohini in north Delhi," a Delhi traffic helpline official said.
Other areas where traffic moved at slow pace included Raja Garden flyover in west Delhi, Vikas Marg near ITO.
"I had just left for home from Safdarjung Enclave and have been stuck at AIIMS road for the last 30 minutes," said Manish Arora, a public relations executive, heading to Connaught Place.
