The weekend began on a chilly and wet note in the capital on Friday with the city receiving heavy rain late in the night. There were reports of rain accompanied by hail in some parts of the city. More rain has been forecast for Saturday.
With the day largely cloudy and a drizzle in the morning, rain began in earnest late evening. At around 10 pm heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning hit the city.
The rain caused large puddles to form and some streets were flooded. The subway crossing in South Extension was flooded.
"I had a tough time reaching home due to the heavy rain," said Kavya, who left office late and was stuck on the road for some time.
The day's maximum temperature dipped four notches below average at 16.9 degrees Celsius while the minimum was five notches above average at 12.4 degrees.
Humidity was recorded at a high of 100 and a low of 80 percent.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Saturday rains are expected to lash the city in the morning and the maximum and minimum temperature are expected to be around 18 and 13 degrees respectively.
Thursday's minimum temperature was recorded at 8.6 degrees, two notches below average, while the maximum settled at 19.3 degrees.
