Her father-in-law was beaten, paraded naked
New Delhi: The joy of motherhood is shrouded with the fear for life for a 24-year-old woman who has nowhere to go in her ninth month of pregnancy. Her in-laws have been ousted from their village as she married a person of a different caste. Her father in law, a mosque cleric, was beaten up and paraded naked by her parents and other villagers after she fled with her husband who she had secretly married.

The incident had happened on October 30, 2010, in Adholi village in Buland Shahar district in Uttar Pradesh. The elderly person is still in a critical condition even after undergoing treatment for two months at GB Panth Hospital in the Capital. The husband of the woman will file a complaint on Wednesday regarding this to the National Women Commission for Women.

The woman, Mahvish, had married Abdul Hakim (26), way back in June 2009. But the two kept it a secret and continued staying in their respective houses. Mahvish's family came to know about the relation only when they found out about her pregnancy. Her father beat her up and tried to fix her marriage with someone else. The duo then fled from the village on October 29, 2010. After this, her father complained about the matter to the village head. The family and the villagers attacked Abdul's family and beat up his father.  Abdul's father was hospitalised as he suffered extreme shock and the family had to leave the village and sell all their belongings.

Mahvish's family had filed an FIR of kidnapping against Abdul's family members at Kotawali Dehat police station. Abdul had in return filed a petition at Allahabad High Court on January this year saying that both of them were adults and had married willingly. However, the court said that no action can be taken against Mahvish's family till the next hearing. Abdul's family had asked for protection at the local police station but to no avail. They had even approached SP Buland Shahar and IG Meerut zone for protection.
