Hot Tuesday morning for Delhi, rain likely

New Delhi: The capital faced yet another hot and humid morning on Tuesday with the minimum temperature settling a whopping six notches above the season's normal at 32.6 degrees Celsius.

However, the weather office has forecast some respite with possible thundershowers towards the evening.

"The skies will become partly cloudy as the day progresses. There could be rain towards the evening and night in some parts of the city," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

"The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius," the official added.

Humidity recorded at 8.30 am was 59 per cent.

According to the IMD, the monsoon will arrive in the capital by the end of the week.

The monsoon generally reaches in Delhi by June 29.

Monday's maximum temperature too was six degrees above normal at 41.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was five degrees above at 32.3 degrees Celsius.

The weather conditions have forced the Delhi government to extend summer vacations in its schools by a week till July 9. Some private schools have followed suit.
