New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members and youth wing activists protested outside Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's official residence in New Delhi this morning, seeking his resignation.
The protests come a day after the BJP protested against the AAP government's move to institute a commission of inquiry into allegations of corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association when Mr Jaitley headed it. The BJP contends that probing DDCA does not fall in the Delhi government's jurisdiction for which it staged protests outside the Delhi assembly on Tuesday.
The police used water cannons to disperse the mob after the protesting AAP members scaled the police barricades set up outside the Finance Minister's residence on Krishna Menon Marg where prohibitory orders, barring the assembly of more than five people, are in place. The minister's residence is a stone's throw away from the Ministry of Defence headquarters.
AAP MLA Jagdeep Singh, who was leading the protests said, "This is a peaceful protest. Arun Jaitley should resign. They are conducting CBI raids on us for small things." Former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharati also participated in the protest.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had hit out at the Prime Minister demanding his resignation over what he called a "failed raid" on his office by the CBI. He alleged that the Modi government had set the CBI after him to shield Mr Jaitley in the DDCA probe.
