New Delhi: The woman who threw ink on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday while he was addressing a public gathering on the odd-even scheme has been arrested.

The Chief Minister had started his speech to the 5,000-strong audience at a stadium in Delhi when Bhavna Arora, 26, walked towards the dais and threw ink, and some papers and a CD at Mr Kejriwal. She was immediately detained by the police.

The police said Bhavna Arora belongs to the "Aam Aadmi Sena" a splinter group of Aam Aadmi Party formed by party rebels.

An upset Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made it clear it would make the attack on the chief minister a big issue; party leaders said they see a grave security lapse by the police and have attacked the BJP, which rules at the Centre. The Delhi Police reports to the Central Government.

Hitting out at the police for failing to protect Mr Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged: "I can see a BJP conspiracy." He remarked that acid could have been thrown instead of ink.

The BJP's Shazia Ilmi said Mr Sisodia must apologise for making the "absurd allegation".
