Is Delhi University the best option across the country? Your Qs answered

New Delhi: As the admission season kicks off, anxious parents and students are waiting for the cut-off lists to be out. Our expert JM Khurana, Dean, Students Welfare, answers your questions:

Ananya: I have 93.40% in my best of 4. My chances for economic honours?

Professor JM Khurana: There are chances keeping in mind the last year's cut-offs but the college cannot be predicted.

Guest: I have got 95.4% and want to pursue Economics Honours in LSR, SRCC or St. Stephens. Will I be able to make it? Which are the best colleges for Economics Honours in DU?

Professor JM Khurana: There are chances of making in some college of DU keeping in mind the last year's cut-offs but the college cannot be predicted. All colleges in DU are good.

Ronit Roy: Can you please name the colleges which offer BBA in DU & what is the procedure of getting admission?

Professor JM Khurana: There is no BBA in DU.

Apoorva: What are the professional prospects of BBE?

Professor JM Khurana: There are very good prospects for each course, provided that the student performs well. This being an applied course, there are good job opportunities.

Anu: I have 92.25% in BOF English and PCM. Am I likely to get Economics Honours in Hindu college or SRCC?

Professor JM Khurana: Cannot be predicted.

Singh: I am a DU graduate and it's better than many state universities but at the same time it won't be appropriate to call DU the best option in the country. In the past couple of years, DU admissions have been too glamorized by media for its admission rush. At the same time we rarely see DU in news for its cutting edge research or publication. Your comments?

Professor JM Khurana: Many departments of the university are ranked best in the country. However, glamorization of admissions is only for undergraduate courses which do not contribute to research.

Sharvi: Can I get honours courses in DU? My 12th subjects are English, economics, informatics practices, multimedia and web tech and home science.

Professor JM Khurana: Depends on the courses you want.

Shankar: Is DU the best option? My opinion is that it is not. Rating of universities in the developed world is based on amount of research and publications that come out of the university based on the research. So the question is how well-recognised is DU's work in the international Arena. Your views?

Professor JM Khurana: Many departments of the university are ranked best in the country. And science departments in this regard are doing very well.

Shambhavi: I have secured 77.4%(Arts) from UP board. Can I get admission in any good college like Kirori Mal, Lady Sri Ram, Miranda House, Hindu, Ramjas, Hansraj?

Professor JM Khurana: Cannot predict the cut-offs.

Suraj: I have got the following marks in class 12th- Eng- 93, Maths- 94, Physics- 77, Chemistry- 89 Information Practice- 95. Since, IP is listed as an academic subject in DU information bulletin, can I hope to get admission in Kirori mal college or Ramjas college?

Professor JM Khurana: You have not mentioned the course, you are interested in. For science courses, only PCM is required.
