New Delhi: A pilot, who allegedly mowed down a hotel manager in Delhi's Khan Market in a road rage incident, was freed on bail.
Vikas Aggarwal, the Jet Airways pilot, was released from police custody as the charges against him were bailable, a senior police official said.
Rajiv Jolly, a manager at an Italian restaurant in Khan Market, lost his life on Tuesday when the pilot allegedly ran his car over him following an altercation after their vehicles collided.
After the collision, Jolly came out of his car and allegedly entered into an argument with the pilot besides thrashing him, a senior police official said. Both Jolly and
Aggarwal are aged 37 years.
"Aggarwal was inside his car. Suddenly he took a sharp turn. Jolly fell down and was run over," the official said.
A case of causing death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving was registered against Aggarwal. These charges are bailable.
The family of the victim has alleged that the police was under pressure not to invoke harsher charges against the pilot, which has been denied by the police.
The official said it appeared that Aggarwal did not do it do it intentionally. "The pilot was trying to enter the market while he was being thrashed allegedly by Jolly.
"Jolly fell down. There was little space between the car and footpath where Jolly was standing. His injuries were on the right side of his body. He apparently died due to the fall," the official said.
A detailed forensic examination will be conducted to ascertain whether Aggarwal "deliberately ran over him or was it purely accidental," he said.
"We are waiting for the forensic examination report. Also we have asked for constitution of a medical board for post-mortem so that no allegation is levelled at a later stage," the official said.
