Kiren Rijiju's action came hours after he said that strictest possible action if such assaults were found to have a racial angle.
New Delhi:
Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju tonight spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma and directed him to take prompt action against those involved in attacks on Africans saying India's image cannot be allowed to be tarnished by such incidents.
"Spoke to CP for prompt action & sensitising locals also. (We) can't allow to tarnish India's image," he tweeted.
Mr Rijiju's action came hours after he said that strictest possible action if such assaults were found to have a racial angle.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday had asked Delhi Police Commissioner to take strict action against those involved in recent attacks against African nationals.
There has been a series of attacks on Africans in the last few days, including killing of a Congolese youth in the national capital. A 23-year-old Nigerian student was also assaulted in Hyderabad.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the attacks on African nationals in Delhi.
