New Delhi: BJP today slammed the Aam Aadmi Party for attempting to take "political mileage" out of the attack on Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba by suggesting that Opposition legislator OP Sharma was behind the incident.
Ms Lamba was attacked during an anti-drugs campaign in north Delhi's Kashmere Gate area today where she sustained head injuries and had to be rushed to a hospital.
"Delhi BJP condemns the unfortunate incident of this morning in which an MLA Alka Lamba was injured but we strongly condemn the efforts to get political mileage out of it.
"There is no connection whatsoever of BJP MLA O P Sharma with the incident. The shop from which the MLA has alleged that a stone was thrown on her and from which the alleged culprit was caught is not owned or occupied by Sharma," Delhi BJP general secretary Rekha Gupta said.
However, the party said that Ms Lamba should have called police and civic officials instead of embarking on such a drive with political workers in toe.
"BJP also wishes to know, whatever be the mission of the MLA going to Hanuman Mandir precinct, as to who gave her the authority to start the anti-encroachment drive with the help of her political workers?" the party asked in a statement.
"The problem with AAP leaders is that in their dreams too they see BJP. They live in BJP phobia and can even blame us for cold and cough which they may catch," the party said.
