Starting with the government's hopes and aspirations, the poem soon waded into "challenges" the government faced.

New Delhi: Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra injected some colour into the serious proceedings of the first anniversary of Aam Aadmi Party government today.

The amateur poet's composition, though, was politically loaded.

Since morning, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was providing his government's one-year report card. He then took questions from the people on the government's performance and plans.

After the Cabinet along with top bureaucrats took questions on the phone line and Twitter, the minister ended the interaction with his composition.

Starting with the government's hopes and aspirations, the poem soon waded into "challenges" the government faced -- the Opposition BJP, which has only three legislators in the Delhi assembly, and the government it leads at the Centre.

"The whole year they were interrupting our work," Mr Misra sang. "We suffered your LG, we suffered your Null and Void notice... the game is yours, the rules are yours, still we played a hearty game."

The AAP government's first year had witnessed a continuous tussle with the Centre and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, who represents it. From the control over the police force to administration officials, the government had locked horns with Mr Jung on a number of issues.

It was the BJP who had thrown the musical gauntlet yesterday. Parodied on a yesteryear favourite, its jingle went, "Kya hua, AAP-ka wada (what happened to the promises AAP made)". The BJP also held a parallel protest across the street where black ballons were floated and slogans against Kejriwal government were raised.

The party has called the first year of the Delhi government a "Black Year" and plans to hold a protest rally today.
