New Delhi:
Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday ordered a magisterial inquiry after two inmates escaped from the Tihar Central Jail, an official statement said.
The Lieutenant Governor directed that the inquiry be completed within a week.
Saizan, 19, and Javed, 18, escaped from the Tihar Jail on June 27. Saizan was caught while Javed is on the run.
A statement from the LG House said that District Magistrate (South West) Ankur Garg would conduct the probe.
The inquiry would look into the factors and circumstances leading to the two inmates' escape, review comprehensively the security set-up of Delhi prisons, fix responsibility for the lapses leading to the occurrence of the incident, and suggest remedial measures to be undertaken by the prison administration to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The statement said the district magistrate may co-opt officers from departments concerned, including Delhi prisons, Delhi Police, and the Public Works Department to assist him.
