Light rains in some parts of the city last evening brought down the mercury and provided the much needed relief from hot and humid condition.
The Met office said the city is likely to experience more showers today which is expected to bring down the mercury which remained above 42 degree Celsius yesterday.
The light rains started at around 9.10 pm in the evening in some parts of the city.
"It is a welcome shower. It has provided some relief from the searing heat," said Anu Prakash, a resident of Bhogal in South Delhi.
The maximum temperature for the day was recorded at 42.3 degrees celsius, the weather officials said.
Suggesting a substantial increase in night temperatures, the minimum climbed up to 30.7 degrees celsius, which is six degrees above normal. The minimum on Tuesday was 28.5 degrees.
Met officials said the minimum temperature came down several notches following the rains but could not give a proper figure.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature had soared to 44.1 degrees celsius, which is the highest of the season so far.
