New Delhi: A 32-year-old married woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her lover, who then committed suicide in southwest Delhi's Inderpuri area, police said on Monday.
Lakshmi was stabbed by her 30-year-old lover Sanjay on Sunday night in Inderpuri's JJ Colony, a police officer said.
"The woman knew Sanjay from before her marriage and the two were in a relationship," the officer said, adding that "their affair continued even after her marriage."
"In the past few days, Lakshmi had stopped all contact and communication with Sanjay and started avoiding him. This had enraged Sanjay," the officer added.
According to the police, Sanjay confronted Lakshmi on Sunday while she was returning home and they had a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Sanjay allegedly slit his wrist first and then allegedly stabbed Lakshmi multiple times and inflicted more injuries on himself.
Lakshmi was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared 'brought dead' by the doctors. Sanjay too succumbed to his injuries the next day, police said.
Lakshmi had been married to Manoj for the last 13 years and had two children, while Sanjay was unmarried.
