New Delhi:
Ajay Katara, whose testimony helped in proving that the son and nephew of politician DP Yadav had murdered a young man dating their sister, was attacked near his home in the Delhi suburb of Sahibabad on Wednesday night.
Ajay Katara was the main witness for the prosecution in the murder of 24-year-old Nitish, who was abducted from a wedding in Ghaziabad in 2002 and killed. Ajay had testified that on the night of the murder, his scooter had broken down and he was fixing it when a speeding car came to a halt behind him, and the occupants of the car shouted at him to get out of their way. When he peered inside the vehicle, he said he saw Vikas Yadav and Vishal along with a man in a kurta, who Ajay later learnt from media reports was Nitish. Ajay was the last person to have seen Nitish alive that night.
In 2008, DP Yadav's son, Vikas, and his nephew Vishal, were sentenced to life in prison by a trial court and are now lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
Ajay says a medium-sized dumper truck ploughed into his car on Wednesday night with the intention of killing him. The police has registered an attempt to murder case against nine unidentified people.
