New Delhi: A massive fire has broken out at Kinari Bazar area in Chandi Chowk in New Delhi.
Many fire engines have reached the spot and have managed to contain the blaze to a few shops in the area.
No casualties or injuries have been reported. The rescue efforts are, however, being hampered by narrow bylanes in the area.
The fire, reports suggest, seems to have originated from a transformer.
"Initial message that of a transformer catching fire... the fire has been upgraded to medium category. We dispatched almost 25 fire engines. Old Delhi is a congested area, commercial area, the lanes are very narrow," said AK Sharma, Director, Delhi Fire Service.
"The fire is because of a transformer. It used to happen every week, today they have taken notice. The electricity department is responsible," said an eyewitness.
Meanwhile, earlier today, a fire broke out in a building in the heart of Delhi's commercial district of Connaught place.

Officials said the fire was brought under control after 15 fire tenders were pressed into service. Latest reports said the fire was under control but firemen were still inside the building.
