A 21-year-old man, arrested in connection with snatching of a mobile phone, escaped from police custody from outer North Delhi's Samaypur Badli police station, officials said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Rohit, was arrested on Tuesday evening and escaped from the custody late in the night, a senior police officer said.
On August 17, a case of snatching was reported, following which police teams started looking for the accused. A minor was apprehended for the alleged crime and he revealed Rohit's involvement, he said.
The teams looked for him and a tip-off was received on Tuesday regarding his presence in the area. A trap was laid and he was arrested, police said.
Rohit was brought to the police station in the evening and was lodged inside, however, he told the constable that he needs to use the washroom and managed to escape from the custody, police said.
Relevant sections have been added to the FIR registered earlier and teams have been formed to nab the absconding accused, they said.
