Man arrested for allegedly stealing Rs.4.7 lakh in Delhi Metro

New Delhi: A man was arrest today for allegedly stealing Rs.4.7 lakh from the bag of a traveller in a Metro train in the capital, police said.

30-year-old Gajaba, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station in the morning soon after the victim raised an alarm, police said.

Police have recovered Rs.4.7 lakh from Gajaba's bag which he stole from the passenger going towards Uttam Nagar from Seelampur.

"A victim boarded the Metro from Kashmiri Gate. As he reached Rajiv Chowk he found the cash which he had kept in his bag was missing. He started shouting and police deployed at the station arrested Gajaba," a police officer told IANS.

Gajaba told police that he worked in a group with three other people.

They identified a target in the Metro and followed. The gang members surrounded the target and one of them would use a blade to slash open the target's bag and take away cash or valuables, police said.

Police have launched a search to nab Gajaba's accomplices.
