Man arrested for extorting money posing as cop

New Delhi: A man, who was allegedly extorting money by posing as a police officer, was arrested in
west Delhi, police said on Saturday.

The arrested has been identified as Viresh. He was apprehended from Subhash Nagar on Friday while he was in police uniform.

"After parking his scooter, Viresh accused Deepak, the complainant, of being drunk and started demanding money to release him. Deepak recognized him as the same police officer who had taken money from him on the same allegations earlier too," a senior police official said.

Deepak then made a call to the police which arrested him.

"Viresh told police that his father has retired from the Delhi Police. After wearing khaki-coloured uniform and black jacket on it, he used to extort money. Whenever he noticed any suspicious person or a place where construction was going on, he used to confront them, introducing himself as a police officer and then extorted money," the official said.

He was earlier having a construction business in a partnership venture. After breaking off the partnership, he allegedly started committing fraud as he was unable to meet his expenses.
