Man Arrested For Stealing High-End Cars, SUVs From Five-Star Hotels In Different Cities

New Delhi: An inter-state auto-lifter who stole high-end cars and SUVs from five star hotels in different cities, has been arrested in Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, Satender Singh Shekhawat was arrested by a Crime Branch team while he was driving an Audi Q4 near Hyaat Regency Hotel on Monday, they said.

The car was stolen from the parking area of Holiday Inn Hotel near IGI airport, on August 26, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).

"Shekhawat, who is an MBA (marketing), had developed an ingenious though simple plan of stealing vehicles. He would come nicely dressed and target valet areas of five-star hotels," the officer said.

"Well-dressed and fluent in English he would talk over phone like any patron of the hotel and snap up keys of high-end cars from valet service stand and drive away nonchalantly," he said.

During interrogation, Satender said the stolen vehicles were disposed of to his trustworthy receivers, who would use those for drug trafficking to avoid attention of police and other law agencies, Yadav claimed.

Satender was involved in more than 20 cases cases of robbery and thefts of high-end cars. He was arrested several times in past and was lodged at jails in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Porbandar, Nasik, Mumbai, Ratlam and Mandsor, he added.
