New Delhi:
A 10-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his uncle here, police said on Sunday.
Salim Ullah allegedly beat to death his nephew Mohin Khan at J.J. colony in West Delhi on Saturday evening, police said.
The accused then informed his brother and fled. His brother and accomplices tried to bury the body in a nearby burial ground but were apprehended by the police.
"We received a call informing us that a child was murdered and that the accused's family members were taking the body to a nearby burial ground. The police reached the spot shortly after. The body is now in a mortuary and the accused's brother has been picked up for questioning," said a senior police officer.
The officer said the child was beaten with a blunt object as his body bore several external injury marks.
"The child's father was in Mumbai, while his mother and elder brother were in Bihar when the incident happened. The family has been informed," said the officer.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the act was triggered by a petty dispute, he said.
Mohin Khan arrived in the city a few years ago to live with Salim Ullah and his family. The family, which hails from Madhubani in Bihar, runs a household business of manufacturing bindis.
