New Delhi:
A man has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a Delhi court for entering a woman's house, posing as an MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) employee and trying to rob her.
Additional Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna sentenced Babloo to seven years in jail, dismissing his pleas for leniency and release on probation.
"I am of the view that it is not a fit case to grant benefit of probation in view of gravity of the offence. Therefore, I sentence convict Babloo to rigorous imprisonment for sevennyears under section 397 (robbery) of the IPC," the Judge said.
According to the prosecution, Babloo, posing as an MCD employee had entered the victim's house along with an accomplice Khatri on May 9, 2011, stating that they needed to check water coolers and overhead water tank for dengue.
Soon after the victim, Babita, allowed them to enter her house, the duo held her and her children captive on knife point and asked her to hand over the valuables.
"The complainant got injuries in the process. However, Babloo was apprehended at the spot itself, while Khatri managed to escape," the police told the court. Babloo's counsel sought leniency saying that he was the sole bread winner of his family and has to support his aged parents and younger brother.
But the court rejected the plea, agreeing with the prosecution pleas that imposition of severe punishment for such offences is needed as they are on the rise in the society and it is essential to send a strong message to the society against them.
