Man held for fake visa racket

New Delhi: A man was arrested in the national capital for duping a Punjab man with a fake Canadian visa, police said on Saturday.

"Lakhbir Singh, 39, a resident of Uttam Nagar area in west Delhi, was arrested from his home Friday," said a senior police officer.

Singh, posing as Rakesh Kumar, duped Shinder Minhas, a Punjab resident, of Rs. 3.10 lakh by promising him a Canadian work permit.

"Minhas approached Lakhbir Singh who told him that he could arrange the permit for Rs. 8 lakh. Minhas, who is an ex-army personnel, gave him a sum of Rs. 3.10 lakh," said the officer.

Singh later gave Minhas photocopy of a Canadian visa which turned out to be fake.

Police are investigating if Singh was running a racket in fake visas.
