New Delhi: The official said the woman's in-laws have been allegedly harassing her for the past three months.
"According to the victim's father, the husband had even threatened to file for a divorce if she did not get them the money," the police said.
On February 26 night, the wife's father received a phone call claiming that she had tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire, the official said.
The girl has sustained 35 per cent burn injuries.
The officials said that while an SDM enquiry has been initiated the accused and his elder brother have been arrested.
"The accused have been arrested and a case of attempt to murder and dowry harassment has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station here," DCP (West) Pushpender Kumar said.
A 32-year-old man, who allegedly set his wife ablaze, was arrested by the police.
As per a senior Delhi Police official, the accused tried to burn his wife yesterday evening, after an argument over dowry.
As per the statement of the victim, her husband refused to have food until she brought Rs 2 lakh and a car from her parents, the police said.
