New Delhi:
A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold biscuits valuing about Rs 28 lakh at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi.
Acting on intelligence, custom department officials had intercepted the accused after his arrival in Delhi from Dubai on Saturday.
"On detailed examination of his baggage, nothing objectionable was found. But on his personal search, 9 gold bars weighing 1049.76 gms were recovered from him," a custom department official said.
The total value of the gold biscuits is assessed to Rs 28.32 lakh, he said.
The 40-year-old passenger, who hails from Chandni Chowk area of Delhi, has been arrested and the recovered gold bars seized, the official said.
Further investigations in the case were under progress, he added.
