New Delhi: One person was killed and another critically injured when two motorcycle-borne assailants shot at them from close range in Delhi's Samaypur Badli area, police said on Monday.

According to police, Vipin, 18, and his cousin Ravinder, 24, were shot around 1:30 pm on Sunday in the area's MCD colony.

The two men ran a meat shop.

"The assailants, acquaintances of the two, opened fire. Vipin, who took a bullet in the chest, collapsed while Ravinder was injured in the abdomen," a police officer said.

They fled before residents and passersby could give a chase. Both youth were rushed to hospital where doctors said Vipin's condition was critical. He succumbed to injuries later in the day," he added.

Police said a case of attempt to murder, registered earlier on Sunday, has now been converted to murder.

The accused have been identified.
