Man kills girlfriend, dumps body in garden
New Delhi: "I killed my girlfriend as she was blackmailing me." That is what Mohammad Saleem told cops when he surrendered at the Ambedakar Nagar Police station around 3 pm on Thursday.

Saleem, 32, told cops he killed his girlfriend and dumped her body in the Rose Garden near IIT Delhi. He added he was so frustrated he would have killed himself.

The cops went into a tizzy and immediately rushed to the location, and after an intense search found a body of a girl aged between 20-25.

"Mohammad Saleem came to the police station and claimed he is a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Delhi. He said he killed his girlfriend because she was blackmailing him," said a police officer. The cops confirmed the identity of the girl as Nikki.

"The accused said he had strangulated Nikki with the help of her robe, slit her neck, and dumped her body in the Rose Garden. There were some marks found on the neck of the deceased but we have sent the body for post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

"The motive behind the murder seems to be money. According to the accused, Nikki was her neighbour and they were in a relationship for the last few months," the police officer added.

He said Nikki used to demand money from Saleem every now and then.

"On Wednesday night they had a fight and he strangulated her and then slit her neck and dumped her body in the Rose Park," the officer said.

"In the primary investigation we got to know that Mohammad Saleem worked in Dubai for three years and came back to Delhi 11 months back. The deceased is married and she has two children," the officer added. Mohammad Saleem was a resident of Dakshinpuri in Ambedkar Nagar in southeast Delhi before moving to Dubai where he took up a job for three years.
