New Delhi:
An unidentified man, aged around 40 years, was run over and killed by a Metro train while he was allegedly trying to cross the track at Tilak Nagar Metro station today.
The incident was took place around 2.45 pm. The man had purchased a ticket till Anand Vihar Metro station and was waiting on platform number 2, while he should have waited at platform 1, said police.
When somebody told him that his train would come on the other platform, the man, who was apparently in a hurry, jumped down and managed to cross one of the tracks, said police
When he reached the other, the train from Dwarka approached and allegedly run over and killed him, said police.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. So far the police did not recover any document or mobile phone from the man's possession, with which his identity could be ascertained, police added.
Metro services were briefly disrupted following the incident, a Delhi Metro official said.
Walking on Metro tracks without lawful authority is punishable by imprisonment up to six months or a fine of up to Rs 500 or both.
