Man stages kidnapping drama to get money from parents

New Delhi: Scared of telling his parents that his motorcycle had gone missing, a man pretended to have been abducted to get money from his family members, but was exposed by the police.

On Tuesday, one Radhe Charan reported to Mandawali Police station in east Delhi that his younger brother-in-law Mangal, 22, had been kidnapped by some unknown persons along with his motor cycle Honda Hunk.

He said the abductors had also demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakh and that he had paid a ransom of Rs 1.4 lakh along with some jewellery to the kidnappers at India Gate in the early hours of Monday.

"The kidnappers allegedly did not release Mangal saying that he would be released later," a senior police official said.

On Wednesday, the alleged kidnapped person surfaced suddenly and came to the police station along with his family members and he tried to mislead the police during the probe.

"After prolonged interrogation, he confessed to having fabricated a story of his own kidnapping and further revealed that on the evening of May 29, he went to meet his friends Anil, Mukesh and Pawan at Pandav Nagar, Delhi on his motorcycle and parked the motorcycle near a wine shop and consumed alcohol with them.

"After sometime he noticed that his motorcycle was missing. In order to avoid a reprimand by his family, he weaved a story of his own kidnapping to get money from his family members, and then procure a new motorcycle," the official said.
