New Delhi:
A 29-year-old medical student was gang-raped and robbed of her valuables in a moving Alto car last Friday. A senior police officer said two persons, identified as Balwant Singh and Mahesh Singh alias Mintu, were arrested in this connection a day after the incident.
The officer said an FIR had been registered under section 376-G (gang rape), 365 (kidnapping for murder), 506 (threatening someone) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence) of IPC at Mehrauli police station.
On the night of November 18, the victim, Tannu (name changed), had gone to the market to purchase some medical equipment while returning home after classes. She is pursuing a course (diploma in DNA studies) from Fortis Hospital and lives in south Delhi.
She was stopped by two persons travelling in a Maruti Alto on the pretext of asking for directions near Banerjee hospital. "Suddenly one of them pressed a handkerchief over my mouth. After that I fell unconscious and regained my senses two hours later. To my shock, I found myself naked. The duo raped me and forced me to drink alcohol at knife-point. They then again raped me in the moving car," narrated the victim to the police. The accused also took Rs 10,000 from her bag.
Around 5 am the next day, the victim managed to get off the car. She raised an alarm and some people gathered at the spot. "The accused, however, managed to escape in the car. Fortunately, the victim was able to note down the licence plate number," said the police.
The victim then approached the police with a written complaint. "With the help of the car number, police arrested the accused. They are not residents of Delhi and had come to the Capital to distribute wedding invitation cards," added the police.
