New Delhi: A woman has been arrested for allegedly getting two contract killers to murder her son in order to hide her extra-marital affair, police said on Thursday.
Twenty-year-old Manjeet was kidnapped from his house in Najafgarh in South West Delhi and taken to the Sangur district of Punjab, where he was later killed, in January this year.
The matter came to light when the contract killers, arrested on Wednesday for robbery, confessed to other crimes, including Manjeet's murder.
"Surprisingly, while admitting their involvement in other cases, the accused said that they were also involved in a contract killing case," a senior police official said.
The 45-year-old mother, Rajesh alias Lalli, was arrested the same day.
"After he came to know about the affair, Manjeet had warned his mother against it," Deputy Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Ojha said.
"Aggrieved by his behavior and finding difficult to strike a compromise, Rajesh decided to eliminate her son and hired the killers," he said.
According to the police officer, the women paid Rs 2 lakh to the contract killers - Umesh alias Michael and Mahender alias Monu - to do the job.
