New Delhi: The Urban Development ministry is under fire over its decision to renew the lease for the Delhi Golf Club till 2050, at least eight years before the contract term expires. At least 30 Members of Parliament have written letter to the Prime Minister demanding an investigation into the matter, alleging favouritism while allotting memberships.
The renewal, usually done months before the contract terminates, has raised eyebrows over the fact that on the ministry's recommendation, at least 15 people were given out-of-turn memberships.
The ministry's explanation, which denied any irregularity, failed to satisfy the MPs from various political parties. The MPs have raised question over the hurried manner in which the lease has been renewed and the criteria followed to select the members.
