Munnabhais used WhatsApp to circulate leaked exam papers

New Delhi: A gang that had allegedly leaked the test papers for recruitment of tax and CBI inspectors, used messaging application 'WhatsApp' to send solutions and hints to aspirants through bluetooth devices.

The group, calling itself the 'Munnabhai gang', was caught earlier this week.

CBI sources said the paper was allegedly procured by Hissar-based mastermind Surinder Kumar, who is missing. He allegedly sent the scanned copy of the paper to his associates through 'WhatsApp'.

The mobile application can be used for sending messages as well as pictures, voice messages and songs to users.

Sources said the gang-members, who were sitting outside the examination centre in a car, solved the paper in batches of five questions each and communicated the answer keys through hidden bluetooth devices to candidates who were writing the papers.

Kumar allegedly charged Rs 20 lakh from each aspirant. The CBI has managed to arrest six aspirants, including Amit Khatri, an Income Tax inspector posted in Mumbai.

Sources said Khatri was caught with two high-end phones, a tablet and Armani shades, besides cash.

They said he was trying to move to the Delhi zone of the Income Tax department and used the services of the gang to clear the examination.

Six students and seven gang members arrested in the case were produced before a special court here.

The agency is still searching for others who may have been helped by the gang.
