The areas under the jurisdiction of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will be able to get water and electricity at subsidised rates from today.
The resolution for the same was passed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was sworn-in as NDMC member yesterday.
"Kejriwal passed a proposal to implement 50 per cent tariff reduction on consumption of electricity up to 400 units and provide 20 kilolitres of water free to all households in NDMC areas," a senior NDMC official said today.
"The schemes together are set to cost the civic agency Rs 22.5 crore, which the Delhi Government will reimburse. The scheme will be implemented with effect from today," he added.
"NDMC itself distributes power in areas under its jurisdiction and has 70,000 consumers out of which 44,000 are domestic consumers. From the total domestic consumers, the power subsidy is going to benefit 32,000," the official said.
Besides Mr Kejriwal, Delhi Cantonment MLA Surinder Singh and Secretary of Directorate of Education Punya Salila Srivastava were also administered oath as NDMC members during yesterday's Council meeting.
