New Delhi: The first day of new academic session of Delhi University was on Wednesday marked by the freshers familiarising with college life and strict vigil by authorities to check any incident of ragging.
In the colleges where orientation programmes were held earlier, the new students attended classes and met their teachers.
Elsewhere, the freshers indulged in striking friendships, taking selfies alongside orientation.
At an orientation class at Ramjas, Commissioner of Police Alok Verma extended well wishes to the new students and guided them to become law abiding citizen.
The university and college officials, in association with the Delhi Police, took several measures to check ragging of freshers by the seniors and make students comfortable on their first day at college.
No ragging incident was reported.
Some colleges were specially decked up for the occasion with flowers and banners to welcome new students.
Different students outfits like NSUI and ABVP also greeted them through sweets and chocolates.
