New Delhi: A 'most wanted' dacoit of north India, allegedly involved in more than 100 robbery cases in various states, was arrested in the capital, police said on Wednesday.
39-year-old Joginder alias Joga was apprehended from his hideout in Subhash Park Extension of Shahdara on November 26, ACP (East) K C Dwivedi said, adding that a revolver, three laptops and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
Joginder is the leader of the dreaded Joga gang, allegedly involved in most of the sensational house dacoities and carjacking in Delhi and NCR for the past 14 years. At present, he is the 'most wanted dacoit' of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, police said.
"Joga never show his hideouts to anyone and also does not believe in luxury vehicles for movement and prefers 180cc bikes. During dacoity his associates move in luxury vehicles but he use only bike. After dacoity also he does not sit in vehicle with his associates.
"During three raids by different states police, he managed to flee. He also never remove his helmet as he always fear that he might be identified by police or informers or his previous jail inmates. Several times he had fired on police party," Dwivedi said.
On the gang's modus operandi, he said, the members reccee the probable target colonies on bikes and open houses near parks were selected. During dacoity they use luxury vehicles which were robbed by them, he said.
On November 23, the gang's plans to rob a house in Yojna Vihar in east Delhi was thwarted by police as it got a tip-off and rushed there.
This year, the gang allegedly committed a number of dacoities in Anand Vihar, Preet Vihar and Yamuna Vihar in Delhi, neighbouring Sahibabad, Old Faridabad and Gurgaon.
Recently during a dacoity in Preet Vihar, Joga allegedly murdered a servant of a house when he tried to stop his gang.
Joga entered the world of crime in 1997 when he allegedly attempted to kill a doctor in Sultanpuri area after an argument broke out over a trivial issue between the medical professional and his close friend and an associate Devender. He was in jail for four months in the case.
