New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman from Mizoram was allegedly molested by a man at a public phone booth at Timarpur area, near Delhi University on Sunday. According to police, the woman belonging to the Naga community is residing in Gandhi Vihar at present. She was formerly a student of Delhi University and is currently preparing for competitive exams.
The incident took place on Sunday at around 10.30 pm, while she was making a call to her parents from the phone booth. A person came from behind and allegedly molested her.
"Hearing her screams, a local rushed to her help. He also caught hold of the accused," said a police officer. Later, when the police were taking the accused to a nearby police booth, a group of people suddenly gathered and allegedly beat him up. During the scuffle, the culprit managed to escape from the spot. A man who sustained head injuries was discharged after first aid.

"A case has been registered under Section 354 (assault with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman) and two young men were questioned and later let off," said the police. Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of North-East Support Centre, said, "It was a very shameful incident. The police arrived 45 minutes after reporting of the incident."
