Multi-tasking will be the name of the game for Delhi Police soon.
The city police have changed its rules with regard to recruitment, making it mandatory for those men hoping to join the force as Constable or Sub Inspector to possess a valid driving licence.
An amendment in this regard in the Delhi Police (Appointment and Recruitment) Rules has been cleared by Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna, a senior police official said.
"This will help us in multi-tasking. Now, nobody can say that they can't drive. As drivers just do driving and take up no other responsibility. Now anybody can be assigned any task," a senior police official said.
The official said the new move comes as the top officials believe that the force cannot operate in the "old mode" and there was a need for a "new-thinking" in using human resources.
Amendments have been made in Rule 7 and 9 of Delhi Police (Appointment and Recruitment) Rules, which mandates driving licence for appointments.
The notification read, In rule 7 "after educational qualification, the following shall be inserted, namely driving licence -- a male candidate must possess a valid driving licence for Light Motor Vehicles (motorcycle/car)".
In Rule 9, under heading driving licence, a candidate must possess a valid driving licence for LEV. This requirement is essential for Constables (Executive-Male) in Delhi Police and not for candidates for post of constables Bandsmen or buglars or dog handlers etc.
