NRI kills self over 'financial worries'

New Delhi: NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old NRI committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan at his Vasant Kunj residence on Tuesday morning. Police said Dheeraj Rana was depressed over the last few months because of his poor financial condition.

Rana was not able to bear the expenses of his father's medical treatment and the wife's education, the police said. His wife Sakshi is pursuing MBA in London. Rana's father is in coma and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The police were informed at 5.10am on Tuesday by Rana's mother. DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma said: "Dheeraj was taken to AIIMS where he was declared brought dead. The exact reason for his death is not know as we have not found any suicide note with the body." Sharma said Rana was a Green Card holder in the United Kingdom.

The post-mortem of the body will be conducted on Friday as his wife and sister who also lives in the UK will be able to arrive only by Thursday.

Sharma added Rana was depressed due to financial losses in his property business. "On Monday night, Rana also had some heated argument with his wife Sakshi while the couple were chatting on the Net. Rana had even smashed his laptop by throwing it on the floor," she said.

Family members have said despite Rana's poor financial condition, Sakshi was insisting for money for her education and accommodation.
