New Delhi:
Delhi government conducted a trial run of around 750 private buses on Sunday that will ply on roads during odd-even scheme that begins from January 1.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai extended the registration date for enrolling private buses, which will be plying under 'DTC Paryavaran Bus Sewa' during the 15-day period.
"So far, around 2,732 private buses have been registered for plying in Delhi during the odd-even scheme. Out of 2,732 buses, around 1,832 are school buses," DTC spokesperson Dr RS Minhas said.
Earlier in the day, the transport minister visited BBM depot in north Delhi and took stock of the preparations.
Dr Minhas said that around 750 buses, which have been given special permits, will be plying on various routes.
On December 4, the Arvind Kejriwal government had announced that 4,000 buses will be "general" buses while 2,000 buses will be taken from schools after their duty hours will have 50 per cent seats reserved for women.
The government recently issued a helpline -- 011-23370209, for applicants who want to register with this new bus service.
